FAQ C120 and C130 Lightbar Operation

Overview

The Gateways offer a Lightbar that can be used to assist in placing the external antenna in the optimum location to enhance the signal strength. The Lightbar provides a visual indication of the RSSI Signal Strength and is available on the C120, C130, C131, C132 and C134.

The lights shown when the Gateway is in operation are a snapshot of the last signal check. Signal strength is automatically checked at boot and before every new call is placed.

Lights Signal Strength
One LED Poor
Two LEDs Fair
Three LEDs Good
Four LEDs Excellent
Top and Bottom LEDs flashing No Signal
Any LEDs strobing (on solid, flash, on solid, flash in a continuing sequence) No PPP Connection. This is displayed when the connection to the cell tower is available but the connection through the cell network to the destination server is not established.
Four LEDs flashing rapidly Low cell modem memory detected

Note: The Lightbar reflects the measurement from the last sample taken at boot or prior to the placement of a call.

Note: Verizon can put a “hold off” (refuse connection for four hours) on the card if three connection attempts are made and each tried with in two minutes from each other. When this occurs the LightBar LEDs will flash 1 and 3 at the same time then 2 and 4 at the same time. Retry is every four hours or you can eject and reinsert card.

Activation Status Indicators

If an unprovisioned Air Card is installed in the unit, the Air Card's LEDs can indicate the status of the activation.

Operation Meaning
Toggle
(1-2, 2-4, repeat)
Card is currently not activated, and cannot be activated doe to an activation failure, or invalid information in the provisioning config file. If the card is a Verizon card/module, it will retry every 10 minutes to re-activate.
Light moving upward
(1, 2, 3, 4, repeat)
Card is currently activating.
Light moving downward
(4, 3, 2, 1, repeat)
GatherStats is runing. Do not interrupt this operation..

Note: The activation indicators are currently available (2/1/2008) only with Novatel series cards.
