Delivers More Speed and Flexibility for Backup or Primary Wireless Connectivity

York, Pa. – April 10, 2012 – Sixnet, a Red Lion Business, today announced the availability of Long Term Evolution (LTE) support for its EnterprisePro™ cellular routers. Effective immediately, LTE support provides customers with faster 4G wireless connectivity as well as the flexibility of backwards compatibility to 3G and 2G networks. This new offering is ideal for small and mid-sized organizations that are looking for increased speeds when using cellular technology for primary or WAN backup connectivity.

The EnterprisePro series enables customers to seamlessly use USB sticks to take advantage of LTE wireless broadband technology. This functionality is currently compatible with LTE networks from Verizon and will also work with AT&T, Sprint, Bell Mobility, Telus and Rogers later this year. Often referred to as 4G (fourth generation) technology, LTE provides faster speeds and increased bandwidth to better support landline back-up, video surveillance or any application that requires Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities.

“More organizations are using network-based applications and data to run business-critical operations, so having LTE support gives customers the advantage of greater speeds and more flexibility when using cellular technology to access information,” said Mahesh Patel, director of wireless offer management at Red Lion Controls. “Our cellular routers, when combined with LTE, give businesses with remote locations, a strong solution for primary WAN backup connections. This helps to keep network-based operations, and day-to-day business, running smoothly.”

Sixnet’s EnterprisePro cellular routers provide cost-effective broadband connectivity, a robust enterprise level feature set and remote management capabilities generally found on only the most advanced platforms. With standards-based TCP/IP protocols (OSPF, BGP, RIP) and VPN support for IPSec, SSL, and redundancy via VRRP, EnterprisePro routers also offer a fully configurable stateful firewall, out-of-band management support and can be fully managed by Red Lion’s SixView Manager™ software.

Sixnet IndustrialPro Routers Deliver Wireless Backhaul Connectivity to Support Smart Meters

Ballston Lake, NY – December 6, 2011 – Sixnet, a Red Lion business and leading provider of industrial networking solutions, today announced that its IndustrialPro® cellular routers are being used by Black Hills Power to provide wireless backhaul connectivity for the company’s secure Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project. The AMI collects data from smart meters at more than 69,000 customer sites over a 3G cellular network, allowing Black Hills to remotely monitor energy consumption and maximize power availability.

“Previously, we checked electric meters manually, which was a time-consuming process that involved a great deal of driving and home visits,” said Rick Dobbe, communications engineer at Black Hills Power. “The security, performance and reliability of Sixnet’s rugged cellular routers give us real-time access to data so that we can remotely monitor energy use, outage and restoration notifications and alarms over our Verizon 3G network, helping us to conserve costs while increasing productivity.”

Black Hills Power provides safe, reliable service to 69,000 residential and commercial customers in 25 communities in western South Dakota, southeastern Montana and northeastern Wyoming. Black Hills’ AMI initiative, which began installing smart meters in customer homes in June 2010, is a smart grid project that contributes to the national goal of building an intelligent grid to serve the public interest and conserve energy.

Sixnet’s IndustrialPro routers provide secure, cost-effective cellular connectivity to remote locations and devices such as meters, sensors or RTUs in industrial environments. The IndustrialPro routers used by Black Hills Power are managed by Sixnet’s SixView™ Manager, which enables remote management, configuration and monitoring of multiple devices from a single console.

“The Black Hills Power AMI program is an ambitious project that required a wireless solution that was not only secure and reliable, but also easy to deploy,” said Scott Killian, director of sales for Sixnet/Red Lion. “Sixnet’s industrial wireless routers combined with our SixView Manager software make it easy to install, configure and monitor remote units so that organizations can proactively utilize 3G networks for innovative applications such as smart meters.”

Industrial Networking Pioneer Ranks First in “Large Private Company” Category

Ballston Lake, NY – November 1, 2011 – Sixnet, a Red Lion business and leading provider of industrial networking solutions, today announced that CFO Ted Rydzewski has been named “2011 CFO of the Year” by The Business Review, the preferred resource for local news and information for Albany’s fastest growing companies. Sixnet took first place in the “Large Private Company” category and was honored at an awards ceremony on October 20, 2011 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Troy, New York.

Acknowledged for his outstanding performance in his role as a corporate financial steward, Rydzewski was instrumental in the company’s recent acquisition by Spectris plc, the productivity-enhancing instrumental and control company and parent of Red Lion Controls. Despite the down economy, Sixnet saw record growth in 2011, and Rydzewski, who has been with the company for five years, attributes this success to the company’s expansion of its international sales channels.

“We have seen active growth over the past twelve months, including recent partnerships and office expansions into both South America and the Asia Pacific region,” said Rydzewski. “When the U.S. market began its downward spiral in 2009, we quickly realized the importance of pushing into the international markets as a way of differentiating ourselves from our competition, and we are fortunate to say that this strategy has worked extremely well for us.”

This news comes on the heels of Sixnet’s recent acknowledgement as a 2012 CW 100 award recipient by Connected World magazine, which recognizes the most innovative providers of M2M technology and connected devices. Companies on the CW 100 list are selected after considering hundreds of private and publicly-traded firms, and winners are chosen based on sales and earnings growth, contribution to the connected devices space, and innovation in multiple markets served during the past twelve months.

When asked about reasons for the company’s recent successes, Rydzewski replied: “There are three key things I have learned. One, build a strong team around you; you are only as good as your team. Two, always have written financial and strategic plans because without plans you do not know where you are going. And three, never underestimate your competitors. As soon as you become complacent, your competitors will take your market share.”

RAM 6000 Provides Native Modbus Interface, Software Programmability and Secure Cellular Access to Critical Devices

Ballston Lake, N.Y. and Portland, OR – August 3, 2011 – Sixnet, a global market leader of machine-to-machine (M2M) industrial networking solutions, today announced that Set-Point Control, an industrial systems integrator, has standardized on the new Sixnet RAM™ 6000 cellular RTUs to deliver its cloud-based SCADA application, IPm WebControl. This technology will be utilized in critical customer environments, including the remote configuration and monitoring of devices used in chemical tank farms for a multinational chemical company.

The RAM 6000 is a cellular-enabled Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) that provides secure monitoring and control of remote devices. Designed for industrial organizations with equipment located in remote areas, the RAM 6000 combines powerful industrial automation, networking and security with cellular technologies into a single, compact cellular automation solution. With a built-in Modbus gateway and Software Development Kit (SDK), the RAM 6000 allows users to cost-effectively access critical device data – even when using custom-built software applications – and can easily interface with existing RTUs and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) to deliver real-time access to SCADA data from pumps, valves, sensors and meters.

Set-Point Control used the RAM 6000 SDK to operate its IPm WebControl software, which seamlessly enables a large chemical customer to remotely monitor and control tank farms. By speeding the delivery of critical information regarding tank levels and system performance, the Set-Point customer can instantly make real-time decisions.

“With the RAM 6000 SDK, we are able to easily program IPm WebControl so that our customers can remotely configure and update devices at anytime. Our software keeps track of IP address changes and alerts us if we lose cellular connections, while the unit continues to log data and then backfill that data when connections are reestablished,” said Scott McCoy, president of Set-Point Control. “This integrated solution enables industrial customers to quickly deploy units and access real-time data to make informed decisions.”

The RAM 6000 delivers flexible, secure communications for critical industrial applications, such as gas distribution, water or chemical tank farm monitoring, solar and wind farm remote installations and pole-top power distribution. In these environments, monitoring and control is critical for both safety and operational efficiency.

“Many industrial facilities have aging infrastructures that need close monitoring, and in many cases, it is not feasible to reach remote areas with traditional landlines,” said Mahesh Patel, director of product management, wireless solutions at Sixnet. “The RAM 6000 provides real-time monitoring and control of multiple PLCs and RTUs at each site across cellular networks, all at a much lower cost than deploying personnel to manually check them across hundreds, sometimes even thousands of miles.”

Managed by Sixnet’s SixView Manager™, the RAM 6000 enables powerful management, configuration and monitoring of multiple devices from a single console. SixView Manager allows customers to remotely update firmware and make field changes to one or many devices at once.

New EL326 Rack-Mount Switches Provide Layer 3 Enterprise Features, 10-Gigabit Uplinks and IPv6 Management to Expand Sixnet’s EL Switch Series

Ballston Lake, N.Y. – April 20, 2011 – Sixnet, a global market leader of industrial machine-to-machine (M2M) networking solutions, today announced the EL326 Layer 3 rack-mount switch, the latest addition to its EL series of advanced industrial Ethernet switches. Designed with Layer 3 functionality, the EL326 provides 24 ports of Gigabit Ethernet, optional dedicated stacking ports and 10-Gigabit Ethernet uplinks to combine advanced enterprise-class features with high-performance switching for rugged reliability in industrial environments.

The EL326 is the newest addition to Sixnet’s existing line of EL switches, which includes the EL228 (28-port Ethernet) and EL212 DIN-rail (12-port Ethernet) switches. Together, these switches provide a highly flexible product family that enables Sixnet to address a broad range of industrial networking requirements by offering a customizable solution that supports different technologies, feature sets and form factors. These capabilities address specific customer needs, helping to enable a new and more complex generation of applications for industries such as power & energy, oil & gas, transportation, video & security, military, water/wastewater, maritime and others.

“With the new EL326’s Layer 3 functionality, Sixnet has truly expanded its advanced switch line to provide an intelligent communications platform that reliably supports Smart Grid operations,” said Doug Sheldon, CEO of IC Systems. “The switches’ small form-factor pluggable (SFP) ports are fully field-configurable and the scalability provided by the stacking options allows for great flexibility at a lower total cost of ownership.”

As more devices are added to the infrastructure and network-based technologies become more common in industrial markets, customers are demanding more advanced enterprise-class features. Sixnet’s EL326 switches offer Layer 3 capabilities that provide multi-service industrial networks with more control over internal traffic and VLANs, subsequently helping to manage complex systems that will continue to grow over time.

About the EL326

The EL326 is an industrial-grade rack-mountable Layer 3 Ethernet managed switch with 24 ports of Gigabit Ethernet, including four flexible SFP ports that support either fiber or copper connections. Two optional 10-Gigabit Ethernet uplinks and dedicated stacking ports enable the stacking of up to four switches, thereby providing redundancy and the ability to add capacity as required. Additional features include:

Layer 3 routing to support standards-based routing protocols and enable redundant networking

IPv4 and IPv6 management for hybrid IPv4/IPv6 networks

Advanced port security (static and dynamic) that supports several authentication and encryption protocols, rate limiting and ACL features

Powerful management for easy configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting

“As a strong addition to our industrial Ethernet switching line, the EL326 gives customers and partners a powerful combination of Layer 3 enterprise features, industrial-grade reliability and Gigabit Ethernet performance,” said Andrew Bronson, Sixnet’s director of connectivity solutions. “With industrial customers becoming more reliant on network-based technology to run day-to-day business operations, network infrastructures will become larger and more complex, making enterprise features a necessity in industrial environments.”

Web-based Software Saves Time and Reduces Costs for Power, Utility and Other Industrial Customers

Ballston Lake, N.Y. – January 26, 2011 – Sixnet, a global market leader of machine-to-machine (M2M) networking solutions for industrial markets, today announced the availability of SixView™ Manager – flexible enterprise-class remote management software designed to increase productivity and reduce costs for organizations using Sixnet industrial-grade wireless routers. Sixnet will be displaying SixView Manager alongside its portfolio of industrial networking solutions on February 1-3 at Booth #433 during the DistribuTECH 2011 conference in San Diego, California.

SixView Manager’s web-based console enables customers to remotely access, configure and manage critical device information for several, even thousands, of Sixnet routers. Its customizable dashboard highlights alerts, providing instant visibility to potential issues. The ability to proactively access data reduces the need to deploy staff to remote sites, thereby saving time and reducing costs. Status such as signal strength and IP addresses are displayed in real-time to help simplify troubleshooting. Enhanced security measures enable administrators to easily set user-based access control parameters, upgrade firmware, configure VPNs and update firewall settings – all from a remote location.

“Since our inception 35 years ago, we have worked to develop robust connectivity solutions that improve efficiency for power, utility and other industrial customers,” said Mahesh Patel, director of wireless solutions at Sixnet. “SixView Manager provides flexible monitoring and control to benefit organizations with harsh remote environments, such as power substations, public utilities and other applications where wireless connectivity and remote management of hard-to-reach devices is required to protect critical business operations.”

With device-based licenses that work with Sixnet’s broad range of M2M wireless solutions, including the company’s IndustrialPro™ and EnterprisePro™ routers, SixView Manager provides a comprehensive real-time view of deployed wireless devices from a single server-based console – at a fraction of the cost of existing management software currently available in the market.

Transworld Installs Sixnet Industrial Ethernet Switches on ‘Phoenix’ Rescue Pod

Ballston Lake, N.Y. – November 23, 2010 – Sixnet, a global market leader of machine-to-machine (M2M) networking solutions for industrial and commercial markets, played a role in the recent rescue operation involving 33 miners in Chile. Sixnet, working with local partner Transworld, donated industrial Ethernet switches that were mounted in the ‘Phoenix’ rescue pod and networked with a camera for video transmission. The network-transmitted video was then utilized to inspect the rock structure of the tunnel walls used to transport the miners to safety.

Known for its compact size and rugged reliability in extreme conditions, Sixnet’s SLX-5ES-2ST industrial Ethernet switches were used in test runs of the Phoenix to remotely video the tunnel walls and the movements of the capsule. While in the tunnel, the industrial-grade switches endured 95 degree Fahrenheit temperatures and wet conditions to transmit the video images to a nearby control room.

“The Sixnet switches worked well for this operation because their small size and weight made them quick and easy to deploy, plus they were rugged enough to endure the extreme heat and humidity of the rescue tunnel,” said Daniel Salcedo, networking and communications division manager at Transworld. “Time was a critical factor, and Sixnet’s switches allowed us to work with the various teams in the rescue effort to get the Phoenix deployed as rapidly as possible.”

The SLX-5ES-2ST is a compact, 5-port industrial Ethernet switch that weighs only six ounces and offers connectivity for both fiber and copper cabling. Sixnet’s connectivity products are used in a variety of industries including power & utilities, oil & gas, military, maritime, transportation, video & security and others.

“While our industrial switches have performed in some of the world’s most rugged environments, this was obviously a unique and extraordinary example of our products in action,” said Hilton Nicholson, president and CEO of Sixnet. “We are happy our product donation was able to assist the rescue effort and we thank Transworld for both the expertise and long hours spent at the San Jose mine in Chile.”

Industry-Certified Switches Securely Deliver Enterpise-Class Performacne in a Rugged Platform

Sixnet, a global market leader of machine-to-machine (M2M) networking solutions for industrial and commercial markets, today announced its new EL DIN-rail switches, the latest addition to the EL series of heavy industrial Ethernet managed switches. The 8- and 12-port switches combine flexibility, redundancy and ruggedness with enterprise-class networking capabilities to deliver reliable and secure communications for Smart Grid and power substation applications as well as traffic control, railway, maritime and other harsh environments.

By extending advanced management and security features into industrial network environments, the EL DIN-rail switches improve process control, data access and network uptime while protecting critical operations. This creates an intelligent communications infrastructure for Smart Grid projects that increases efficiency, enhances reliability and reduces costs.

The new Sixnet switches enable quick DIN-rail mounting through a compact, hardened package designed for easy deployment. With a number of Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity options (8 + 4G) and support for several fiber optic and copper cabling types, the switches provide extensive port flexibility. In addition, the switches’ small form-factor pluggable (SFP) ports are fully field configurable, allowing customers to seamlessly modify configurations as requirements change, thereby providing the lowest total cost of ownership of any industrial Ethernet switch in its class.

Compliance with IEC61850 and IEEE1613 standards makes the EL DIN-rail switches ideal for almost any industrial application, while delivering a comprehensive set of enterprise-class features that include:

Advanced security – protects against unauthorized access

Superior redundancy – keeps networks running even under fault conditions

High-performance networking – prioritizes handling of mission-critical data

Powerful management and monitoring – simplifies deployment and fault isolation

“Sixnet’s new EL DIN-rail switches, which offer the same software and full set of advanced features as our EL228 switching platform, provide industrial users with greater security and traffic management – even for edge deployments,” said Maria Phillips, GM INBU at Sixnet. “This creates an intelligent communications platform that reliably supports Smart Grid operations to provide better service to the customer.”

Sixnet, which has more than 30 years of experience working with utility customers, announced its 28-port EL 228 switch in October 2009. In early 2010, the EL228 earned KEMA approval, enabling further deployment in power substation environments.

Beijing Omate Leverages Sixnet Industrial Ethernet Switches for Real-Time Highway Tunnel Monitoring and Communication Systems

Ballston Lake, N.Y. – Sixnet, a global market leader of machine-to-machine (M2M) networking solutions for industrial and commercial markets, today announced that partner Beijing Omate Digital Technology Co., Ltd. is using Sixnet industrial Ethernet switches to deliver real-time highway monitoring and communication systems for tunnel projects throughout China. These systems include video monitoring, safety, traffic control and toll collection.

The highway tunnel projects are a series of long-distance tunnels, which vary in length from one to two miles, and connect China’s Shuijie, Zhongdian, Yunnan, Lindian, Baoniu and Fuyan highways. Located in the mountainous regions of Chongqing, Yunnan and Shannxi, the tunnels face volatile temperature fluctuations coupled with humidity, dust and vibrations. Sixnet’s rugged industrial networking solution enables Beijing Omate to reliably meet these extreme conditions while providing the advanced enterprise features required for redundancy, management and security.

“The rapid expansion and scale of the Chinese tunnel system is very impressive, covering long distances and passing through difficult, mountainous conditions,” said Liu Yunping, the general manager at Beijing Omate. “Sixnet’s unique ability to combine rugged reliability with enterprise-class features makes it ideal for challenging projects like the Chongqing, Yunnan and Shannxi highway tunnels.”

Sixnet’s SLX series of industrial managed Ethernet switches allows Beijing Omate to provide reliable performance and fault tolerance over long highway tunnel distances through single-mode fiber optic cabling and redundant ring network configurations. The Sixnet switches also offer SNMP, RMON and web-based management, port-based VLANs and tagging and support for IGMP multicast control. This enables the highway tunnel systems to efficiently utilize network-based technology to monitor traffic patterns, inform motorists of traffic and road conditions, re-route traffic to avoid accidents and manage vehicle toll collection.

“The highway tunnels are a key part of China’s expanding transportation system and growing economy,” said Michael Li, managing director of Sixnet China. “Sixnet switches and Beijing Omate are providing a solution that will enable a highly intelligent, modern tunnel system which will each handle thousands of vehicles every day.”

Ballston Lake, N.Y. – Sixnet, a global market leader of machine-to-machine (M2M) networking solutions for industrial and commercial markets, today announced the new Sixnet IndustrialPro™ Wireless Gateways and Routers at the DistribuTECH conference in Tampa, Florida. Sixnet is currently displaying these new products and other industrial connectivity solutions designed for power and energy customers from March 23-25 at DistribuTECH booth #239.

Sixnet’s IndustrialPro™ Wireless Gateways and Routers provide secure, cost-effective wireless connectivity to remote locations and assets. They can reliably be used as secure, primary WAN connections or as backup to landline connections.

These new rugged wireless products provide cellular connectivity for remote devices such as meters, sensors or RTUs in industrial environments such as power and energy, oil and gas, water/wastewater, transportation and video surveillance, where space may be limited and wired connectivity is not feasible. For many remote sites, cellular solutions can be easier to deploy and more cost effective than landline connections.

The Sixnet IndustrialPro™ Wireless Gateway provides 3G or 2G cellular connectivity, one Ethernet port, one serial port and support for either AC or DC power.

The Sixnet IndustrialPro™ Wireless Router provides 3G or 2G cellular connectivity, one or five Ethernet ports, one serial port, and support for either AC or DC power. It delivers full firewall and routing functionality, supporting IPSec or SSL VPN, Port Forwarding and support for Network Address Translation (NAT), OSPF and RIP. It also offers a local web-based management interface.

Both products are managed by Sixnet’s SixView™ Manager, which enables powerful management, configuration and monitoring of multiple devices from a single console. SixView Manager also allows customers to easily update firmware and make field changes to routers or gateways without having to deploy resources to remote locations or manage individual units, thereby saving time and reducing costs. SixView Manager is used to manage all of Sixnet’s M2M wireless solutions, including the recently announced QuicKonnect™ Routers, EnterprisePro™ Routers, ATM Cellular Gateway and ATM Internet Gateway.

“Our industrial gateways and routers bring cellular connectivity to remote locations and the harshest environments,” said Hilton Nicholson, CEO at Sixnet. “Cellular continues to be a cost-effective, easy-to-use alternative to WAN technologies, and with our compact form factor and powerful management platform, Sixnet makes it easier to deploy, monitor and manage devices regardless of location.”

Sixnet’s comprehensive portfolio of M2M and mobile connectivity solutions are designed for a wide range of markets and applications such as power substations, water treatment, oil & gas, military, intelligent transportation systems and others. In addition to harsh industrial and outdoor environments, Sixnet also provides wireless connectivity for kiosks, ATM machines, point-of-sale (POS) terminals, lottery machines, landline backup, remote monitoring and control, fleet management, field service vehicles and other applications.

Ballston Lake, N.Y. – Oct. 19, 2009 – Sixnet, a global market-leader of industrial and commercial machine-to-machine (M2M) networking solutions, today announced its new EL228 industrial managed Ethernet switch platform. As the newest addition to Sixnet’s full line of industrial switches, the EL228 is the only product in its class that combines the reliability, redundancy and ruggedness required for demanding industrial environments, with true enterprise-class networking capabilities.

By providing a broad range of high-end enterprise-class networking functionality, the EL228 delivers the capabilities required to enable a new generation of “smart” applications for industries such as power and energy, transportation, and oil and gas, delivered in a hardened form factor with proven reliability in environments as extreme as U.S. Navy air traffic control in Antarctica and oil platforms in Oman.

“There has been considerable hype in recent years around smart grid and intelligent transportation systems, but in reality most of these systems remain seriously constrained by limited networking capabilities,” said Hilton Nicholson, president and CEO of Sixnet. “The EL228 is the first Ethernet switch platform to provide the security, reliability and broad enterprise-class networking features that organizations in these markets require.”

The EL228 also delivers the lowest total cost of ownership of any industrial Ethernet switch in its class. It accomplishes this by providing 24 Fast Ethernet small form-factor pluggable (SFP) ports that are fully field-configurable. This enables customers to modify configurations as networking requirements change, thus eliminating the “forklift upgrades” required when using typical pre-configured industrial switches. Additionally, The EL228 substantially reduces the need to inventory spare switches, since customers can dynamically configure the EL228′s ports to match the configuration of any switch in their network.

“The new Sixnet EL228 is the most flexible industrial managed switch I’ve seen,” said Dr. Jay Park, senior product manager, PowerRICHSystems, for BCI Technologies, a provider of industrial communications and automation solutions to enterprises and municipalities worldwide. “The EL228 provides a single-model solution for the diverse needs of smart grid and distribution automation in all types of substations, at a great price point.”

EL228 Product Features
The EL228 is a 28 port (24 + 4G) industrial Ethernet managed switch that provides customers with superior flexibility. Its 24 Fast Ethernet SFP ports can be used for any mix of copper RJ45 or fiber transceivers. The EL228 features LEDs, power/ground connections, console ports and bracket positions on both the front and back of the switch, enabling customers to install the unit in front and rear/reverse arrangements as needed.

Its rugged design and compliance with IEC 61850/IEEE1613 standards (KEMA approval imminent), makes the EL228 ideal for extreme environmental conditions, such as those found in the power generation and distribution industry, the transportation industry, and IP-based video security. Support for these standards means the EL228 is tough enough for almost any industrial application, while providing a variety of enterprise-class features including:

Sixnet’s patent-pending universal mounting feature and flexible port options provide customers with easy order and deployment options. The ability to mix and match fiber and copper ports on the fly provides a significant level of convenience and helps reduce costs. Plus, the EL228’s multiple mounting bracket positions, movable power plugs, LEDs and front and back console ports make it easy to stock for rapid delivery and deployment.
